How Does Alcohol Delivery Work On Instacart?
- Customers must be 21 or older to order alcohol and must provide an approved photo ID showing their birthdate at delivery.
- You cannot add alcohol via special requests.
- If an alcohol item is out of stock, your shopper will contact you to get approval for a replacement. If the shopper cannot get approval, they will refund the item.
- Shoppers can only replace an alcoholic item with another alcoholic item
Alcohol Delivery Restrictions
- Alcohol may never be delivered to a retail business or college campus.
- Manual ID entry is unavailable for California orders, as well as Costco or Walmart orders nationwide.
Green cards cannot be scanned and require manual entry. - Alcohol cannot be delivered to visibly intoxicated individuals.
If a customer fails to meet delivery requirements, alcohol cannot be delivered; Instacart will return it and refund the item, though customers may still be charged fees or tips.

Damaged Alcohol Items
Instacart provides a credit, refund, or redelivery if the shopper damages an alcohol item due to the following:
- Shattered or cracked flass.
- Broken seal.
- Missing or tampered label.
- Poor bagging, leading to damaged items.
Over-The-Counter Medicine
Instacart delivers over-the-counter medication from select stores as well. Check to see if this service is available in your area on the Instacart app or website.

How Over-The-Counter Medicine Deliver Works On Instacart
- Customers must be 18 years of age or older to order over-the-counter medicine and must provide an approved photo ID showing their birthdate at the time of delivery.
- Instacart cannot add over-the-counter items through special requests.
- Your shopper will verify your age and scan the front and/or back of your ID upon delivery. In some cases, the shopper can also enter your information manually.
Valid Forms Of Identification For Over-The-Counter Medicine Delivery
- United States-issued driver’s license with photo.
- United States-issued military ID.
- State-issued identification card.
- United States-issued passport.
- Note: Instacart doesn’t accept passports for most orders in California, or for Costco or Walmart orders nationwide
- Green card.
- Note: Instacart doesn’t accept green cards for orders in California, Washington, Missouri, and Minnesota, or for Costco or Walmart orders nationwide.
