Everything Uber drivers need to know about Cash Trips through the app

In 2016, Colorado Springs was the test market for this feature. To be honest, I loved it because tips definitely increased, and you didn’t have to give the passengers change; instead, they were given credit for their next ride.

So, for example, if the ride costs $10 and they give you $20, they can either use the extra $10 as credit for their next ride or give it to you as a tip.

Now, when you do Cash Trips, Uber subtracts that amount from your digital ride earnings. This means your weekly balance can go into the negative, causing you to owe Uber money. That negative balance will then transfer over to the next week. For me, this has only happened once.

How to Collect Payment at The End of a Ride

  1. At the end of the trip tap “Collect Payment”.
  2. Enter the amount the rider gave you whether it’s overpaid or underpaid.
    • Note: If it is overpaid ask the rider if they want the change in Uber cash or if it’s a tip for you. Drivers do not give change to passengers.
      1. If a rider should pay the amount tap on the dollar amount.
      2. If a rider should overpay and wants the change as Uber Cash tap other amount and enter amount.
      3. If a rider should overpay and wants to give the rest to you as tip tap on dollar amount of trip instead of other.

How Trip Receipts and Earnings Balance Once Trip Is Complete

  • Your trip receipt will show how much cash you received. This amount will appear as a negative payout because you already collected it directly from the rider.
  • In your Earnings Summary, cash payouts will be listed as negative amounts. If your balance is negative at any point, we will adjust it using future earnings from digital payments.
